It’s a great time to book your Tampa fishing charters as the fishing has been great and weather mild. The water clarity continues to remain as clear as I’ve seen it in a long time. The spanish mackerel are everywhere, the snook on every shoreline, the redfish on every island, and tarpon are available if you know where to look. Seatrout on the flats provide nice fillets for dinner and have been plentiful. The guides here on TampaBayCharter.com have days available in May still so call, text, or email today to schedule your trip!

The snook bite here in Tampa Bay has been unreal lately with some extra large fish being caught. Anglers fishing with Captain Sean Tanner have enjoyed catching snook to 40+ inches using scaled sardines on light tackle here in Tampa Bay.

Fishing has really improved with the water temps hovering around 70°. Fishing charters Tampa area have seen nice size schools of redfish on the flats.

image

These redfish are mostly over slot fish but some nice trout have come off the flats in the same area to fill the dinner plate. Snook are on just about every shoreline I’ve checked and eating well when fishing pressure hasn’t been to bad.

Tarpon fishing is right around the corner. Book your adventure today!

Spring has sprung and fishing has been off to a great start. Spanish mackerel have been found everywhere there’s moving water. The kingfish shouldn’t be too long now. Snook are out on the flats and smacking scaled sardines with reckless abandon. The bigger seatrout are mixed in with redfish in 2 ft. of water around mangrove islands. Seems as if we might have a great year for pompano since catches have been coming in all winter from all the guides. I’ll be checking on some tarpon here soon also if the water stays around seventy with any consistency. Late season cold fronts will briefly stall fishing but it won’t take long for things to go right back to normal. Here’s a late season front approaching right at the end of a charter. The fish had fallen into a predictable pattern lately with the consistent weather patterns we were having. Today and tomorrow the weather will be in the 50′s and will more than likely slow the bite for our Tampa fishing charters. Give it a day or two and the fish will get acclimated and fall back into their normal feeding patterns. Next week looks like we might have days in the low 80′s which should make for some great fishing especially on shallow flats with potholes or oyster bars for big sea trout and redfish using live shrimp and jigs for bait.

Book your spring days early as they fill up fast!

Very mild December temperatures have kept fish biting well. Fishing charters here in the Tampa area have still been concentrated on catching trout, snook, redfish, bluefish, cobia,  snapper,  and more.  Baitfish are plentiful on the edges of flats near channels and require little if any chumming.

Here’s Stephan with a keeper cobia from this past week.

Here we are in November and the temperature is remaining in the 80′s and the fish are loving it! Kingfish have slowed down and seemed to have passed by fast unless this is just the first wave. That quick cool down we had seemed to have pushed some of the fish that were close in out offshore but the warming trend we’re on now may change that. Spanish mackerel are still abundant and have been eating flies with wreckless abandon along with the ladyfish, bluefish, and countless jack crevalle in the area. The snook fishing is still great around the bridges, islands, and mangrove shorelines. Redfish schools have thinned but there are still fish to be had fishing the schools of mullet on the flats. The seatrout fishing has been getting better on then shallower flats now that the water temp is in the low 70′s.

There are still days available next week for Thanksgiving week. Don’t be left out book your fishing trip today!

Redfish Fishing Tampa Bay

Redfish

Fishing on lower Tampa Bay has been nothing short of stellar this October. Charters in the St. Petersburg area have produced consistent catches of top slot and over Redfish, keeper Seatrout, Mangrove Snapper, big Spanish Mackerel, and the occasional cobia. One charter this month caught a 30 pounder while Snook fishing along an island shoreline.

Snook

Big Snook

The big news however is that the snook are back after the freeze/kill of 2010. Top slot and bigger fish have taken up residence in all the usual haunts and are eager to feed on the better tides. Beach fishing in the Gulf of Mexico has produced good catches of big Spanish Mackerel along with some Kingfish and the occasional Flounder and Grouper, not to mention the Sharks. This fantastic action should continue through November so come and get some while the gettin’s good!

Hope to see you soon,

Capt. Tim Drummond

Flounder fishing St Pete

Flounder

Todays fishing charter was focused on fishing St Pete area beaches within a mile from the shore. We started out fishing 3 baits free lined and 1 on the bottom. Within 10 minutes we started seeing action and it only got better.  The flounder we caught today were all nice compared to what I usually see while fishing Tampa Bay Area flats. The biggest went 20″. We also caught a mix of gag grouper, red grouper, key west grunt, spanish mackerel, jack crevalle, bluefish, and ladyfish.

St Pete Beach Fishing

Dinner!

St. Pete Beach fishing charters should stay consistent until the cold fronts drop the water temperature too low and the fish move on to their offshore haunts.
